No runners since Genovese’s wonderful win at Worcester last Monday and none now until Worcester again this coming Friday. Lots going on here though with Sean Bowen & Finn Lambert both in on Wednesday to school Found On, Spanish Present, Back on the Lash, Ten Past Midnight, Kazontherazz, Mr Mafia and Herecomeshogan and they all pleased me. We are fortunate to have our own private reservoir here and a fabulous watering system too so, although it takes up plenty of my time watering the grass to make it safe enough to enable us to school, it’s worth every hour it takes me! Nothing beats the horses schooling on the surface they will run on and the ground was perfect for these horses to school on Wednesday.
Paul Davis, Matthew Baker and Gordon Bendall were in on Friday to not only see how well Genovese has come out of his race but to watch their other horses on the gallops. We worked Back On The Lash, Spanish Present, Bella Ciao, Samtara, Kazontherazz, Big Nasty and Found On.
Mike & Mella Wright kindly took us out for a delicious supper on Friday night at The Farmers Arms in Guiting Power – somewhere we can highly recommend and it was a really fun night and as delicious as always. Mike & Mella were then in on Saturday morning to see the horses they have shares in including their own Borderline who ran such a big race on his bumper debut recently to finish 2nd. He’s in good form and will be out again shortly.
Always a help to have extra people in on a Saturday and my ex-Assistant Trainer Foxy is a Saturday regular as is Tim Gibbs who was a bit before our time at The Dukes’ (although looks as young & fit as ever!) and it’s great to see them both. We will shortly miss the girls that have to go back to University that have helped us out so much over the summer – Jemima and Polly Turner and Amity Thwaites – they have all been a brilliant help and we will miss their smiley faces around the yard too.

It’s been a weekend of watching the boys play football with no racing. Harry’s Broadway U13s Team won 5-0 away in Upton on Severn yesterday with Harry contributing twice to the score putting their team top of the league with one game played – let’s hope they stay there! Freddie’s team, Northleach U15s, played a cup match at home today vs a team that have been beaten just once in the last 18 months and it was a tough match eventually losing 1-8. They showed resilience and played their best though.
