Martin’s Blog 18th July

Two runners this afternoon at Market Rasen. Continuance is up in grade running in the Betway Summer Handicap Hurdle and seems in good form. He’s been a model of consistency, finishing in the placings on his last six runs without quite winning but will need a career best to win today. Freddie, as usual, rides. Freddie also rides Redbridge Rambler later in the card in the Betway Boosts Handicap Chase over 3 miles. They won well at Warwick in early May and needs to reproduce that form again to be in the mix today. He seems in good form at home as does Continuance.

We’ve had a few visitors this week. Michael Chitty was in to see Bluey Bay on the gallops and we enjoyed an early supper so that we could be home to watch the England game. Thank goodness we were as our labrador, Willow, who was due to have puppies the following day, went into labour as the match began! Eight healthy black puppies were born throughout the game and the debriefs! Much more interesting than the game! They are gorgeous and she is the best mum as we hoped she would be with her lovely nature. The sire is a yellow lab called Timber who is a local labrador and as beautifully bred and kind as Willow is so we aren’t surprised that they are stunning puppies.

Jane Berry visited with her usual basket of goodies for the team (and carrots and apples for the horses!) to see Hot Goddess who is well into her road work with quite a lot of condition that needs to come off before she starts cantering! Always lovely to have visitors and whilst Jane is fortunate that she is local so can come regularly, Michael has more of a drive so can’t come in as much but we enjoy his visits too.

Harry was 16 on Thursday so now has a Stable Pass and can enter the stables at the Races and help us – something he is really looking forward to doing. Just a year off learning to drive – where does time go?!

No runners tomorrow but plenty of sport this weekend with England vs France tonight, the World Cup Final tomorrow and the F1 too. Have a great weekend.
