Martin’s Blog 17th May

After a glorious week the weather isn’t as warm today so thick turnout rugs back on for the horses in training out in their paddocks today as opposed to fly sheets.

We worked a few horses today including Fairmount, Oscar World, Mr Mafia and Be Thankful. Conor Shoemark was in and with Harry Stock here too we schooled Primogeniture, Raving Bonkers and Matravers.

One runner tonight at 8.20pm at Aintree with Forecast running for the E, G & B Partnership – a group of 10 enthusiastic guys. He was our first runner of the season and our first winner too on the first day of the new season under today’s Jockey Richard Johnson starting his season in the best possible way too. He has since missed a winner for us as he was due to partner Capital Force on Sunday but was stood down for the day after a fall on Saturday night. Gavin Sheehan proved a very capable stand in and gave him a great ride. Poor Richard has been stood down this week too after another fall so we are glad he is back in action tonight.

Forecast seems in great form and he should have a good chance tonight with a bit of luck. He won’t mind any rain that falls there either. Harley, who rides him out every day, has set off early to hopefully miss the generally awful Friday traffic heading north – a late night back for him.

Gold Mountain ran well for a long way earlier this week and, after a disappointment on his debut for us after a long absence when some of ours weren’t right, it was great to see him jump well under Leighton Aspell and enjoy himself.

We have no runners tomorrow but Back on the Lash heads for Market Rasen on Sunday and Richard Johnson, who has won on him twice before, partners him too.

May is a busy birthday month and today I’d like to wish my Mum a very Happy Birthday!
