Martin’s Blog 17th January

I was expecting to hear that Ludlow had been abandoned all the way there yesterday as the weather was appalling and driving in the car park was really wet. However, racing managed to go ahead and Samtara ran an absolute blinder in the 1st under Patrick Cowley to finish 3rd and surprise us all. Always nice to have a good surprise and owner/breeders Roger & Yvonne Allsop were rightly delighted. Admittedly he was a good distance behind the well backed winner and 2nd but I was pleased with how he traveled and jumped and showed a good attitude. I hope the Handicapper is now sensible with him – we’ll see next Tuesday.

No runners today and the horses just having a couple of canters.

When is this rain going to stop? So frustrating and not even very nice for those out in the field having a mid season break – despite being well wrapped up with plenty of rugs. We are promised a frost this weekend though and a dry week next week too – let’s hope so.
