Martin’s Blog 17th December

Brillare Momento’s finishing position wasn’t what we’d hoped for yesterday but she’d travelled and jumped even better than she did when she won there last time for most of the race and we were all happy with her however she simply didn’t get up the hill. Aidan couldn’t explain her finishing position ….. he said if she’d not run at Cheltenham before he’d say she didn’t get up the hill but she’s won twice and finished 2nd too. A bit of a head scratcher but maybe, although she looked to handle the ground, it eventually took it’s toll. She’s A1 this morning and has eaten up and is great so onwards and upwards.

Another fabulous two days with friends and family at Cheltenham and plenty of top quality racing even though things didn’t go our way for once. Our three mares are all home safely and thoughts are with the connections of Starchitect who was looking like being the runaway winner of the big race. Our sport is so cruel at times which is why we make sure we celebrate each and every winner because they all mean so much to the team here and their connections no matter what the grade of race.

Southwell today with Weyburn over fences and he seems in great form. He would have needed the run on his return last time from a year off due to injury and has won at Southwell over hurdles. I’d be thrilled if he managed to put in another good run and get his head in front – his owners deserve rewarding for their patience and it would be great if it was today.

It would also set us up well for our Team Christmas Party tonight at the Hollow Bottom – very much looking forward to celebrating the year with the team there tonight.
