Martin’s Blog 16th March

Thanks for all your kind messages about Harley, I don’t think we are surprised about how popular he was. Thanks so much to Louise Brown, Racing Welfare’s Chaplain who visited us this morning to talk to the team. Such a help and a support and we all really appreciated her visit. I’ve said it before but we are so very fortunate to have their support at all times.

We had our Annual Finance Meeting yesterday with Jon Hughes, Paul Davis and Accountant Roger Downes and plenty to discuss, not least Covid-19 and the implications to racing and our business – who knows what may happen over the next few weeks/months. A delicious Sunday Lunch at The Coach & Horses in Longborough followed – Wendy & Joe looking after us superbly as usual.

One runner today at Southwell for our Martin Keighley Racing Club with City Never Sleeps (Patrick Cowley). He was 2nd three years ago today at Towcester (a course we did so well at and miss!) and has only had 3 runs since but has been 2nd in two of those and wouldn’t it be fantastic if he went one better today! He’s certainly got an engine but has been very fragile, twice having over 500 days off due to a tendon injury. We’ve felt it worth persevering with him though as he’s still only 8, has been consistent when he has run and seems to love being in training too.
