The weather doesn’t feel like mid September – we have kept the horses in during the day for the last two days as it was simply too hot for them to go out as usual. Some of their paddocks don’t have much shade and, as we all know if we have too much sun, it can be absolutely draining. Odd to be saving them from the sun though in September!
Hexham bound today with Pinnacle Peak and Robsam both ridden by Richard Johnson as James Best is sitting out a ban. Pinnacle Peak is a half brother to Back On The Lash but is probably a full hand taller and has always been more backward than his older brother. He’s done plenty of schooling and work at home and although this season ours do seem to be needing their seasonal debuts more than before, I hope he’ll put in a solid run.
Robsam was weak last season and, although beaten a long way on his seasonal debut, he was 3rd behind two very nice horses and jumped well in ground that wouldn’t have been ideal. The ground today should suit him better and with his owner Matt Capp making the long journey to Hexham we hope he will build on that 3rd and run a big race.
Back at home and Warren Marston and James Best in to work a few this morning. Paul Davis was in too and we worked Mr Mafia, Capricia, Back on the Lash, Reve, Black Panther, Solstice Star, Debden Bank and Enforcement. Chris Dee was also in to ride out.
A busy day as Raving Bonkers has headed off to the Doncaster Sales today – do get in touch if you are interested in having a fun horse. He’s been really unlucky not to win on a couple of occasions at least over hurdles however surely his bad luck is behind him and he’s a horse with a huge personality.
