Martin’s Blog 15th January

Wet and cold both here today and at Doncaster yesterday where we were hoping for good to soft ground and that the rain wouldn’t come until after racing as forecast. Although it has gone down as ‘good to soft’ ground for the first race, which Enforcement ran in, and changed to soft afterwards – it looked very wet indeed. All the jockeys returned with similar colours – muddy! Enforcement struggled in it and was pulled up and we therefore pulled Be Thankful out later on as her first hurdling experience needs to be a positive one.

Work morning here and we worked Rug A Rig, Brillare Momento, Reve, City Never Sleeps, Big Nasty, Dreamsundermyfeet, Eclat Des Mottes, Ten Past Midnight, Black Prince, Sarasota Star, Back on the Lash, Debden Bank, Cotswold Prince, Black Panther, Lucky Circle, Mozzaro and Kazontherazz. The others just did a swinging canter or just a canter.

No runners today but busy here nonetheless with Hannah Ashton, one of our physios, in to check and treat some of the horses. She is having great results with her Indiba Machine and it is well worth reading up about it if you have a moment. Huge congratulations to Hannah as she has recently got engaged to Alex Steedman, who rides out here occasionally but is better known as a Presenter on Racing TV. Belinda’s claiming all the plaudits for introducing them both quite a few years ago!
