More horses coming back into training from their holidays – as with humans, all look to have done well although as with humans – some have done very well indeed!
We worked a few of the summer jumpers yesterday morning including Lord Condi, Gold Mountain, Chequered View, Cut & Run, Capital Force, Bobble Emerald, Mr Mafia, Cotswold Prince and Fairmount. They all worked well in glorious sunshine. Jon & Jack Hughes were here first lot to watch work and see how the yearlings are getting on too. Amateur Paddy Berkin’s invited his sister in to watch on the gallops and we had an old face in to ride out – young Alfie Jordan, who was based her for a year and is now with Nicky Henderson.
On Thursday Belinda & I had a rare day in London (after I’d watched 2 lots on the gallops & she’d taken the boys to school!) as it was our 21st Wedding Anniversary. I think it was her Christmas present to herself rather that to us – tickets to see Tina Turner The Musical – but it was brilliant nonetheless and it was a really fun day and great to celebrate it for a change! I’d not swap my office, even in torrential rain, for the daily Tube!
Matthew Baker in this morning to see Capricia, Cotswold Prince and ‘Basil’ one of our yearlings. Good to see Matthew and he thought they were looking well.
Disappointing that next weeks’ Worcester fixture (and the following one) has been abandoned and transferred to Ffos Las. I have a few entries and a couple of them are suited by Worcester and had been heading there for quite some time and the track suits. Frustrating but never mind.
Ascot today with the family as guests of Great British Racing to celebrate the launch of their new initiative ‘Under 18s Race Free’ this summer. We are happy to do all we can to help promote racing to our next generation and we look forward to watching the pony racing there today too.
