Martin’s Blog 12th July

In the middle of the heatwave so the team started early again to get the horses ridden early and it was cool enough 1st lot to work some. Warren Marston and Harry Stock both in to ride out and we worked Run A Rig, Debden Bank, Chenery, Borderline and Culverwell. Ten Past Midnight and Kalibrate both did a swinging canter and the rest just cantered. They then all had a bit of time in the paddocks before they came in at lunchtime.

Windy Cove ran a blinder yesterday at Newton Abbot under James Bowen where they tried to make all but in the end finished 3rd. She jumped well though and is such a game mare. Another good run for her.

Today Mr Mafia has a difficult task ahead of him at Southwell. It is a track he loves but, due to his unexpected win at Ludlow in May, he is running off a pound below his highest ever mark…and he’s 13! It’s a very competitive race and he’s the outsider of the field but the trip will suit him more than last time and there are hardly any other options for him. It does seem crazy the lack of options … he’s rated 127 over fences but as of today they’ve put him back in over hurdles off 115 so I did think I’d be easily able to find a 3 mile Handicap Hurdle 0-115….not this side of August’s two week break anyway!

Good luck to Mr Mafia who will once again have Sean Bowen in the saddle who gets on with him so well. A good run would be a welcome tonic to owner Peter Boggis who is a bit battered and bruised following a fall recently.
