Martin’s Blog 12th July

What a busy weekend, albeit without runners. So much sport to watch and what fabulous sport we were treated too – even though I have two very sad boys who were, like most of the nation, hoping England would pull it off last night and win the Euros. Never mind, but what a game and fabulous that the football players from England they are growing up with are far better role models than those I grew up with! I’ve always said we are so fortunate in our sport that our top jockeys are fantastic role models with their work ethic and how they conduct themselves – Freddie & Harry were huge Richard Johnson fans before his retirement and on the flat they look up to Tom Marquand and Ryan Moore – all three huge family men and so kind to them both.

Paul Davis was in on Saturday morning before going on to Martin Jones’ Redmarley base to see our three youngsters that he’s had for a few weeks. He backed them last year as 2 year olds and they have been back here for a year and are now continuing their education before the next stage of their careers – most probably coming into full training although, as always, they’ll tell us whether they need a break or can cope with starting training. Neil Lloyd, Heather & Clive Wooster, Nigel and Karen McAllen, Gordon Bendall, Carol Baker, Brendan Merriman all joined Paul Davis and they had a great morning.

Yesterday Belinda & I celebrated our 23rd Wedding Anniversary – a romantic day of admin, catching up and a footie match to finish – she’s one lucky girl! We didn’t enjoy as much sunshine all those years ago but they said that rain on your wedding day is lucky – an old wives tale?!
