Martin’s Blog 11th Sept

We are at Uttoxeter today with two runners. Cotswold Prince runs in the Maiden Hurdle under Champion Jockey Richard Johnson and returns from a bit of a disappointing run as Worcester last time where he struggled over the minimum trip. We are hoping a step back up to 2 miles 4 furlongs will suit him and the good ground will definitely help as the rain got into the ground last time which also didn’t help. He is tongue tied and seems well at home so I’m hopeful of a big run for his enthusiastic group of owners.

Ballymountain Boy returns to the track hopefully after a non runner here last week where the ground was just a little too quick on a part of the track to risk him. He’s been off the track for quite a while and, in case he is too buzzy on his return we have fitted a hood as he can run quite keenly. Leighton Aspell rides and should suit him as he’s such a horseman. It’s a competitive race but it would be good if he could run a solid race and we’ll be thrilled if he runs into a place…or better. He’ll come on for the run undoubtedly though and we’ll be hoping he returns safely and trots up sound tomorrow morning.

We were lucky enough to get back on the grass schooling yesterday morning as we have a private reservoir here and we have been watering for quite some time. With the help of some rain the ground was decent and we schooled quite a few of the horses. I love getting them back on the grass as you can only do so much on the carpet loop and the straight carpet gallop and the grass is what they run on after all so it’s a huge benefit.
