Martin’s Blog 11th December

Snow, snow and more snow! No runners yesterday meant a day at home and a huge thanks to my team who somehow managed to get in – only one got stuck and I managed to get to him. We simply could not manage without our team of staff and they were rewarded yesterday, as they are today, by some bacon sandwiches which were much appreciated. Freddie & Harry persuaded Belinda & I to go sledging yesterday – we are spoilt for choice on banks to sledge down and the boys loved being pulled by the quad bike too! A brilliant Sunday afternoon rounded off with a roast supper as we all warmed ourselves up.

The boys are home today as predictably their school is Closed today. More sledging and clearing pathways and having snowball fights with the team here – a bit of a hinderance but the team don’t seem to mind! The boys will hope they will join them sledging later!

I was out on the tractor late last night and early this morning too so all the horses were able to canter on our Leisure Ride Carpet Loop and being able to get them all out underlined how important it was to make the investment into widening the loop and putting the carpet surface on during the summer. We are also making good use of our Owners’ Room too as the team all got together for their bacon and a hot drink up there after 3rd lot – such a useful facility with a fully working kitchen next to it too.

We are meant to freeze again tonight so we are salting everywhere again and I’m wondering what racing will be on this week – we need it to warm up now please – we’ve had our fun in the snow!
