Martin’s Blog 11th April

A stunning morning here and great to see owner Neil Lloyd on the gallops with his colleague Shanice Pearson from Law Firm FBC MandbyBowdler. Neil was in our Racing Club but is now an owner with us in his own right too as he has a share in one of our yearlings – ‘Herbie’ by Califet so we went across to see them in their field too.

Yesterday Matt Capp and his father Andy were in 2nd Lot to see Robsam on the gallops and also Dreamsundermyfeet too. Wind surgeon Ben Brain was still here having listened to Dreamsundermyfeet who disappointed on his racecourse debut. He’s a very good communicator, which is so important these days, and it was fabulous that he could spend time with Matt, and also Chairman Jon Hughes who has a share in him too, discussing young horses and wind problems. Fascinating.

Two runners today at Wetherby and I’m collecting my parents on the way through Yorkshire. World War runs in the first race, the maiden hurdle and seems in good form. He has been disappointing but has had more than his fair share of problems but we are hoping we’ve overcome them today and he runs a much better race.

Big Nasty makes his hurdling debut after two placed efforts in bumpers and is also partnered by Leighton Aspell. He’s a massive horse at over 18hh so is a horse for the future but needs to start somewhere and has schooled well at home. Chasing will undoubtedly be his game and he’s a big imposing individual.
