It was a shame Lord Condi couldn’t follow up his Fontwell win yesterday at Worcester and win a second bumper. Aidan reported that he was very happy sat in behind the slow pace and was confident that he could pick off the leaders when they quickened. However, he didn’t find what we hoped he would and finished 3rd. He was a little sore when he got home but has been checked over by physio Hannah Ashton today and she is happy with him. Time to go hurdling now and we need to look at his bumper win as a bonus as he’ll be seen to better effect over obstacles.
It was so hot at Worcester yesterday and I had to feel for the jockeys, valets and officials stuck in the weighing room as it was hotter there than in the sun outside and that was the hottest I’ve been at the races this year.
A bit more of a breeze here today and not quite so hot so the horses can stay out until evening stables and some will stay out overnight which they seem to really appreciate.
Off to Uttoxeter tonight with Morning Herald who drops back over hurdles after a decent introduction to fences under a sympathetic Richard Johnson who let her warm to the task. We are hopeful she’ll build on that and that she will appreciate the switch back to hurdles under our Conditional Harry Stock. She still needs to prove that she wants to stay in training because she’s a nicely bred mare who will make a lovely brood mare when the time comes. I’m hopeful it’s not quite yet but she needs to show some spark again tonight and run well. Fingers crossed.
