Team Keighley are Camel Champions thanks to Issy Mangan who was in red hot form yesterday! We all went to Andoversford Point to Point and Belinda, Jamie & Issy represented us. Belinda was quieter than I’ve known her for a long time en route to Andoversford and was definitely questioning why she was risking herself on a camel just 10 weeks before her very important York Charity race! Her plan was to stay in one piece and that she did finishing 3rd. Jamie was next and he gave his far more encouragement but was on a slower camel and he too finished 3rd. Finally Issy got on her two humped camel and the original nerves were replaced with a steely Mangan competitiveness and she drove her camel all the way to the line. winning in good style.
The winners of all three heats plus the most competitive reserve went against eachother in the final and once again Issy was fiercely competitive and even had the luxury of allowing her camel to ease up towards the line to win and claim her place as Camel Champion and ride her first double for Team Keighley and in the Martin Keighley Racing silks too! A fun day and great to see so many friends there.
I hope all of you that read the Blog on Saturday joined Freddie in backing the winner – One For Arthur! Thanks to Freddie’s pony Arthur, both Freddie & Harry’s money boxes are a little fuller! Those on social media may also have seen footage of One For Arthur winning a point to point in Ireland beating Grand National 4th placed horse Blaklion into 3rd place ….. if you did I’m sure you noticed the second horse who was making his racecourse debut – a certain The Wexfordian! He’s not yet scaled those heights but instead runs at Exeter tomorrow so we’ve reminded him of what he needs to aim for!
