Our Racing Club last season were getting used to having Cheltenham winners with Hung Jury not only winning the 4 miler at the Hunter Chase evening but also winning the Amateur Chase on Paddy Power Gold Cup Day in November – both days are experiences that our Racing Club members will never forget.
Yesterday at Wolverhampton our Racing Club Members had another winner but they didn’t have to wait the eight and a half minutes that Hung Jury took to cross the line to win the 4 miler at Cheltenham … instead it took just 60 seconds for Jack Doughty and Happier to cross the line 2 lengths ahead of their nearest rival to secure our first winner ever over 5 furlongs.
Jack Doughty is a lad we have known since his pony racing days when he raced against Freddie and he has always been a talented lad who has a great work ethic and has always been polite too. He has won on Continuance for us in the past and was 2nd on Happier on her debut for us so we were keen to get him back in the saddle. He gave her a peach of a ride and hopefully she can add to that win again soon.
Harry and I headed straight off from Wolverhampton to Birmingham to watch them play FC Barcelona in a pre-season friendly thanks to Leigh & Sarah Powell. It was a brilliant game and Birmingham forced a penalty shoot out when Jhon Solis equalised in the 68th minute. The teams went straight to a penalty shoot out and Birmingham came out on top winning 3-2. A great night.
Our Head Lad Dan has been away in Cornwall with his family for a much deserved week off and what perfect beach weather they have had. However, we were thrilled he was back this morning albeit the team have worked hard to keep the show running seamlessly without him this week – it was a happier place with Dan back!
With horses working yesterday they just cantered this morning before a weekend out in their paddocks – it’s a bit cooler than it has been and they love going out and staying out overnight.
