Freddie is having some amount of fun on his little shetland pony ‘Brewards Kerwen’ (Blackie) and yesterday they headed to Plumpton Racecourse for The Bob Champion Cancer Trust Day where they were competing in The Recycled Products Shetland Pony Derby over 1f up the Plumpton Hill against their Shetland Pony Grand National team. They’d been training hard in preparation and wanted to build on their 2nd place in 2019!
Riding in the colours of Carrie Wells, famously worn to victory in the Sun Alliance Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in 1995 by the brave mare Brief Gale, and Blackie renamed “Bob’s Big Bentley” we think after the car Bob Champion drives (?!) they weren’t the quickest away from the start but Freddie pushed him all the way up the hill and they were in front where it mattered.

Freddie said it was the best feeling ever and he loved walking into the winners’ enclosure and was persuaded to do a Frankie Dettori dismount…and nailed it!

Raising money for such an important charity – I believe the day raised something in the region of £50,000 which is fabulous so well done to everyone involved.

I sadly couldn’t be there as there were important declaration decisions to make but Freddie & Blackie now head to The London International Horse Show in December and would really appreciate donations no matter how large or small and I’ll not miss watching them there! Please donate here.
