The season seems to be flying by and it’s already Festival Trials Day at Cheltenham today. We have two runners – in hot races. Solstice Star loves Cheltenham and has won over hurdles there twice. He runs over fences today and is 10lbs better of with Mister Whitaker who narrowly beat him at Carlisle earlier in the season – he’ll love the ground, likes a small field and has had a wind operation over Christmas. I’m hopeful he’ll run a decent race and if he runs to his Carlisle form he will hopefully be involved again today.
Fairmount destroyed the field when he won at Ffos Las. This is much harder today but he’s had a wind operation as well since and is in good form and his owner was keen to let him take his chance. He should love the ground and we’ll know a lot more about him after today.
An emotional day at Cheltenham it will undoubtedly be with the celebration of Many Cloud’s life a year on from that fateful day when he ran the race of his life before sadly losing his life. Also celebrating Richard Woollacott’s life with his Beer Goggles running in the Cleeve Hurdle – a life gone far too soon and thoughts continue to be with his family and friends.
Busy here this morning with Paul Davis, Chris Dee, Fi Gamble, Hilary Long and Jon Hughes all in to watch the horses – bitterly cold but stunning red sky.
