A great afternoon at Southwell yesterday with The Great Debden Bank (Ernie’s words) bouncing back to win in good style under a fabulously positive ride from James Best and ensure that he remained unbeaten at Southwell over fences (now 3/3).
Debden lost his way in his last few runs but both Ernie & Warren Marston, who had ridden fast work on him, and James who had schooled him were in no doubt that he was absolutely flying at home but he needed to produce it on the track. He did just that thrilling his enthusiastic syndicate of owners and Ernie who adores him. He’s run eight times for his partnership and won four of those races, finished 3rd on his 1st start for them and also given them a wonderful day out at Cheltenham too. Fabulous.
Love of Neymore was given a sympathetic ride from Harry Atkins and, as I mentioned yesterday, will improve from strengthening up over the summer and Windy Cove ran with the choke out for far too long to get home under Sean Bowen who admitted his arms had been stretched to 6ft longer afterwards! She needs to learn to settle but I’m sure she will give us some fun when she does.
Pay The Woman was unlucky to bump into a very nice JP/Jonjo horse who, although approaching the last upsides her, quickened away as he liked. She did finish a very good 2nd though and pleased us all.
Finally Ten Past Midnight (Patrick Cowley) was a bit disappointing. He finished quite tired but it A1 today and we’ll give him a bit of time before his next run.
