While everyone loves a big scopey horse, smaller and more athletic types often excel in National Hunt. You may remember the terrifically game but tiny Lady Rebecca at the end of the ‘90s, whose 13 wins included seven triumphs up the Cheltenham hill, and I can still remember The Duke’s Anzum just beating her in the Stayers’ Hurdle. This lovely 4yo Getaway filly will hopefully be a similar type, and is ready to run in a fillies’ and mares’ bumper later this autumn. With the considerable expansion in mares’ races and prize-money, there has never been a better time to be involved with one.

Getaway is a sire that NH trainers strongly support. By Monsun, he was the top rated older horse in Germany in 2009/10 and won nine times including a clutch of Gr.1s and Gr.2s over 12-15 furlongs. His progeny are starting to appear now and we were impressed by Nicky Henderson’s 5yo mare, Verdana Blue, when our Brillare Momento beat her at Cheltenham in the Listed Mares’ Novice in April. Willie Mullins’ Getabird is another to note, having won his last three races.

The dam, Lala Nova, won three times and her dam line through Tarasandy has had excellent success with Wadswick Court, Cara Court and Brigadier Brown winning 14 races between them. Indeed 9yo Wadswick Court, for Peter Bowen, as recently as July this year won a 2½ mile chase.
