We are delighted to present Pirate Look, a really exciting prospect with Cheltenham Festival aspirations. This six share partnership will be managed by Charlie Dee, former pupil assistant to Martin. Charlie will provide frequent communication and full transparency on costs while encouraging everyone to be involved in all aspects of ownership, not least regular yard visits.

Pirate Look has run 8 times on the flat, winning on his first start in early November last year. He has since been placed on 5 occasions, displaying admirable consistency and achieving a Timeform rating of 86 in the process.

When assessing the prospective NH career of a flat horse, a general guide is to add 50lbs to a horses rating. This assessment suggests Pirate Look could achieve a NH rating in the mid 130’s. To put this rating into perspective, Flying Tiger the winner of the 2017 Fred Winter Hurdle was rated 134. Whilst the lowest rated horse in the race was rated 124. Therefore, it is a very realistic possibility that Pirate Look could be competitive in the 2018 Fred Winter Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Pirate Look is by Canford Cliffs, an outstanding racehorse and successful sire, whose oldest crop are 4yos. Canford Cliffs has predominantly sired flat horses, most notably Wall of Fire (OR; 110) and Salouen (OR; 110). However, his progeny that have gone jumping have been very successful. Canford Cliffs most high-profile NH horses to date include, Nessun Dorma (Willie Mullins), who is 2/2 over hurdles to date and a very exciting novice hurdle prospect. As well as Cliffs of Dover (Paul Nicholls) who won 6 races over hurdles last season including a Grade 2 Juvenile hurdle at Doncaster. Pirate Look is rated 12lbs superior on the flat than Cliffs of Dover (OR; 67).

Pirate Look is out of Gerika (Galileo), winner of 6 races and a half-sister to three Listed winners. An interesting point to note is that Cliffs of Dover and Nessun Dorma are both out of Galileo mares as is Pirate Look. Furthermore, Canfords Cliffs two highest rated flat performers Wall of Fire and Salouen are also out of Galileo mares. THIS IS CLEARLY A CROSS THAT WORKS!

We are very hopeful for Pirate Look’s future and the dream has already begun.
